BONJOUR LES PARENTS!!!

Thank you to those who have already returned their "album de famille" presentations.  I can tell that everyone worked very hard on drawing some beautiful pictures!  We have started the presentations and will continue through March.  Great work and thank you for your support at home.

I would like to share with you some of my term two goals in French that you can support your child with at home.  We will continue to work on listening and understanding French when Mme Natalie is speaking and we will continue to encourage speaking and expanding our French vocabulary.  More specific goals will be to count to 30, recognize numbers in French to 10, colours in French, family members and shapes.  Following are some resources to help you support your child with these specific goals at home.

Winter Carnival update

Just a reminder that next week is our school's Winter Carnival Spirit Week. While kindergarten students are welcome to participate in all of the week's activities, the outdoor games that are being held for the whole school on Friday morning will not include kindergarten, however students are still welcome to wear their favourite sports jersey that day. We will have a special Winter Carnival Activity Day for them the following week. More details will follow closer to that date.

Sorry for any confusion!
Ms. Quinn

Jungle Sport!

Today the Hummingbirds had a chance to check out Jungle Sport. The students had a great time climbing rock walls, traversing across bridges, and rolling across the floor. Our class will go again on Friday afternoon. Check out the pictures:

Also, next week (Feb. 23-27) will be Winter Carnival and Spirit Week at Georges Vanier.

Monday: Pyjama Day
Tuesday: Cowboy/Cowgirl Day
Wednesday: Canadian Spirit Day (wear red and white)
Thursday: Rock Star Day (dress as your favourite rock star)
Friday: Winter Carnival and Sports Jersey Day

On Friday, students will participate in Winter Carnival outdoor activities in the morning (weather permitting), so please make sure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. Students can also wear the jersey of their favourite sports team.

Raz Kids

Today your child has brought home a login for an online reading program called Raz-Kids. This is an excellent program that helps students develop an early love of reading. Please note that it is not mandatory for you to login to Raz-Kids on a regular basis - while it is encouraged, we wanted to give you the option of something different to explore when reading to your child. If you would rather not use Raz-Kids, that is absolutely your choice. We hope to set up a "technology station" in the class in the coming weeks to introduce the students to the program and get them working on it during class time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Happy reading!

Ms. Quinn

Some Reminders

A reminder that this Wednesday (February 11) a companion dog from the Ottawa Humane Society will be visiting all three of the kindergarten classes at Georges Vanier. If you have not already returned the permission form, please do so ASAP.

The Hummingbirds will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 13. Students are also welcome to bring valentines to share with their classmates. We ask that students ONLY sign the card with their own name and not address them with individual student names. We have 30 students in the class, and 3 teachers - Ms. Quinn, Mrs. S, and Mme Natalie. Also, due to severe allergies, we ask that any treats NOT be sent into the class. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Also on Friday, the Georges Vanier Social Justice Club will be holding a bake sale to help raise money for Haiti. All items will be peanut and nut-free and students will have a chance to help support this cause. Everything will cost $1. Please send any money in a labelled ziplock baggie. Thanks!

Happy 100 Day!

Yesterday was our 100th day of school! To help celebrate, we sang some songs about counting to 100:

The Big Numbers Song

I can count to 100!

We also talked about some of the things that we have done since the beginning of the year. The students remembered lots of things that had happened a while ago, which was really neat to see. We wrote down some of the things we remembered:

Evan and his family also sent in 100 stickers for us to use to help celebrate 100 Day. We made a hundreds chart, and the students decorated it with all of the stickers.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Quinn
