Library

The children are coming home with their library books today and our librarian, Mrs. Rothwell, reminded the students that they must bring back both their book AND library bag in order to choose another book.  We will be going to the library every Tuesday and as suggested in the note sent home on Friday, we recommend sending the books back to school either the Friday or Monday before library day.  Mrs. Rothwell will have French books available in two weeks and we will rotate French and English books weekly after that.

Reminders for the week

We would like to have a special wall in our classroom where we can display family photos for the students to see and share with their friends. Since we would like to have this on display for the entire year, please do not send in photos that you need returned, as we cannot guarantee that they will be returned in perfect condition after being on display for the year.

Milk order forms and pizza forms are due this Friday, September 26

Our class will be visiting our school's Learning Commons starting next week. Students will have an opportunity to take out a book, and return it the following week. More information about this will be sent home later this week.

Fall is amongst us!

Summer flew by so fast! Monday the 22 marks the first day of fall, and we are settling into the new school year. Although we are still early in the year, the students are adjusting quickly into the classroom routines. We are working on our alphabet recognition and printing skills, in both English and French. In the coming weeks, the weather will be quite unpredictable so check the forecast and dress your child accordingly.

Picture Day

Tuesday September 23 is Picture Day

Students will have a class photo taken, as well as individual ones. Once the proofs come in (usually about two weeks' time), we will send them home in the Note Totes. Parents will then have the opportunity to order packages or individual photos. If you choose not to order any photos, you will still receive a copy of the class photo.

Students who are absent on Tuesday will not be in the group/class photo, but will have another opportunity to have their individual photos taken on Monday, October 27.

Smile and say "cheese"!

Friday Fun

Thanks to all of the families who came out to our Meet and Greet on Thursday night. It was great to meet so many of you. We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!

We had a busy day in the Hummingbird class. Mme. Brooking's class was celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day, so our friends had lots of questions about how pirates talk. We read a story called "How to Talk like a Pirate" and practiced our pirate talk. Ms. Quinn even called us to the centers using her best pirate voice!

Here are some photos of what we worked on today:

We used letter stickers and tracers at the art table to help us make words.

Some of the boys built a Subway for their dinosaurs to go to for lunch!

We have some rice and shells in our sensory bin to help students work on fine motor skills. Faith brought me this shell and said "Ms. Quinn, I can hear the ocean!"

Have a wonderful weekend!

BONJOUR!!!

Following are a few pictures of the various activities the children were doing today.

Kealii and Brady spent most of the morning creating puppets.

Rosemary and Mia worked hard on making umbrellas.

Many children chose to create masterpieces using shaving cream paint.

Some boys got together and created a castle for their dinosaurs.

This is the castle the girls made for their dinosaurs.

And finally, we would like to welcome Fuzzy the fish to our classroom!

Following some discussion about what to name our "poisson", children wrote down their ideas and we took a class vote.  The name Fuzzy won with 14 votes!

I look forward to seeing many parents tonight during the Meet and Greet!!

Today we read a story called "Have you filled a bucket today?". We talked about all of the nice things we can say and do to be a "Bucket Filler", and not a "Bucket Dipper". Ask your child about this story :)

If you have Twitter, feel free to follow me: @MsCQuinn

I will try and post as often as I can to document our learning!

If you have siblings in the junior grades, a presentation for those students will be held in the gym at 7:30.

We look forward to seeing you!

Some reminders!

Wow! We had so much fun today in our Hummingbird class. A very special welcome to our Early Childhood Educator, Mrs. Shaista. Mrs. S was away last week, but the students have made her feel very welcome in our class. The beading table was full today with our friends making beautiful beaded creations - like Mme. Natalie, I got to take home some beautiful pieces of jewelry to add to my collection! Many of our friends practiced their writing at the writing table, and created some beautiful books to share with our class. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Here are some friendly reminders:

  • If you have written a note in your child's communication book, please leave the book open to the page so we can see it. We will not be looking through closed books.
  • Please return the Student Verification sheets and Activity fees by this Friday, September 11.

BONJOUR!!

My name is Mme Natalie and I will be your child's French teacher this year.  I work part-time therefore when I am not at school with your child, I am home spending time with my daughter and organizing a very busy family of four!   Gabriella is 9 years old, Daniel 7, Maya 5 and Emma is almost 2.

The first week was a busy one, but what a great start to the year.  We will be spending most of September reviewing rules and routines and slowly easing into some simple French.  By October, I do try to speak to your child mostly in French.  While I hope for many to start speaking in French by the end of the year, my primary goal is for all students to understand when I speak to them.  Following are some songs that your child will be learning in September.  For my Seniors, many already know these songs and when I played some last week, many were able to sing along....WONDERFUL!!!
