Play is a natural way for children to explore the world and learn to interact with one another. While play builds social skills and oral language, it also eases the transition to school and builds a love of learning from an early age.

How do we make play meaningful?
In the Kindergarten classroom, we strive to give students the opportunities they need to take their learning further. The Kindergarten team (ECE and teacher) set up the classroom with materials that encourage more complex language and skills development. Math, Literacy (English and French) and Science are integrated into play scenarios and small-group lessons. When these subjects are integrated into play, children become more excited to learn.

What is Inquiry-Based Learning?
"See children as full of potential, competent, and capable of building their own theories."

Children naturally want to understand the world we live in. Inquiry-based learning means that we are honouring our children's ability to drive their own learning by placing student questions and ideas are the centre of the learning process. Students are encouraged to ask questions and then investigate their own queries of the world. Educators and students are co-learners within a culture of collaboration - educators use their knowledge of curriculum and expertise to extend learning. By asking students open-ended questions and engaging students in problem-solving process, educators are able to document each student's learning and to help guide where they need to go next on their learning journey.
